| Hear what judges say |
“The high standard of design works in this year’s Hong Kong Watch & Clock Design Competition has given me an eye-opening experience. Some of the works even surprised me! This is the first year that I joined the judge panel of this competition and I found it enjoyable and worthwhile. I have greatly benefited from the event which has offered me much knowledge in appreciating the delicate design of watches and clocks.”
Luisa Maria Leitão, Artist
|
"The Open Group has displayed high creativity and professionalism in this year's competition. It is important for the participants to think out of the box and not to be influenced by the existing design in the market. I hope to see more adventurous attempts in technical innovation in the future. The Student Group was able to apply the current trends to their designs. A few designs were impressive. They put emphasis on the traditional value of wearing a wrist watch while adding in innovative elements. Some even delivered thoughtful applications for the elderly. I hope there will be more thoughts on the product packaging as it enhances the overall look and feel of the design."
Harold Sun, The Federation of HK Watch Trades & Industries
|
“The contestants’ works in both Open Group and Student Group are up above standard. The designs demonstrate the contestants’ creativity and their capability to think in different angles. The Open Group was able to apply the theme of “Time controls world” on the design and the functionality of watches. Structure-wise, some of the designs are unique and creative yet practical which can be immediately sold in the market. For the Student Group, the judge panel was very glad to see their detailed thoughts on combining the tradition and innovation. They seamlessly stitched the technological innovation and life elements together to create distinctive designs and user-friendly watches. The Hong Kong Watch & Clock Design Competition succeeds in offering an inimitable platform for the designers to exert all their creativity which they hardly put into practice in their daily work.”
Richard Leung, Director of Marketing & Brand Development, Hong Kong Watch Manufacturers Association |
